In a statement, Mohammad Nizar said the judgment meanns that the law and constitution are the true winners.

Calling judge Abdul Aziz Abd Rahim a brave and courageous person, Mohammad Nizar said everyone would benefit by the judgment "because an independent judiciary is absolutely essential for the well-being of any country and its people".

"(And) we reiterate that the House should be dissolved as per the resolution as per the assembly under the tree on March 3," he said.

In an immediate reaction, opposition stalwart Lim Kit Siang commended the ruling.

"This is a great judgment. This is the first time the court has restored public confidence in the judiciary," he said.

PAS vice-president Husam Musa said he hoped the Perak sultan would now give his consent for new polls.

"It is not about whether we are confident of winning the state again or not but it is a matter of principle for us to go back to the voters to resolve the political impasse that has existed for the past three months," he told AFP.

This is really horrible. I can’t imagine this can happen until I watch it.

I still can’t believe the story is true. Some puppies that people keep as pets are having more decent food then these kids.

I am so sad to see this.

I just shown this video to my wife and kids. They look stunted, speechless, sad, unbelievable……

The family concerned even so thankful with these left-over foods………Can we do something good for mankind? To make mankind more meaningful?

My late father used to tell me to eat half full, and let others eat the other half.

Such kind gesture live with me until today. I never forget those words of my dear father.

It’s a paradox. Since young I have ben taught not to waste food and have cultivated this habit of finishing whatever is on my plate no matter how full I am.

Now I have to be mindful of this “not very healthy” habit given my age. I should not force myself to stuff food into my stomache if I am already full. And most of the time I failed to remember this. Old habit virtually cannot be changed!! (Partly due to greed for food.)

In Mandarin, it is : . 一粥一饭当思来处不易 (translation: With each bowl of gruel or rice you should recall that its production is not easy. 。)

半絲半縷恆念物力維艱。 ( translation: With each half length of silk or hemp, always remember “to make a thing is very hard.” )

This saying is from ZHu Tze, a great confucian sage.

We were taught to finish every grain of rice. Until now, I still do so. If I cant finish my rice, it will be a signal that I am sick..

As for older people, and health, as raised byJustin, it would be good to eat frequent small meals, and if it is frequent small meals , we won’t waste it, and is good for our digestive system as well as our metablolism..

Susan Boyle's story was one of down to earth, great inspiration and courage. Her performance moved me to tears after watching it not less than 10 times with my children. I downloaded a copy of it using youtubedownloader for keeping.

This story tells us everyone of us has our own hidden talent and it is all up to us to explore. Never judge a book from its cover.

A HYPOTHETICAL MURDER

I myself are not convinced with modern day man made laws but prefer to take thing happens at its own course, i.e. let nature takes its own course.

Just look at a hypothetical example, which is happening in real life. A man who murder another man, when caught, face the modern day man made laws, goes on trial, and is not sentenced to death as the trial judge found the evidence produced to him are not beyond reasonable doubt. The murderer escaped death sentence, walk out as a free man. What’s next? Will this means the murderer really free from his own conscience?

If there is such a thing of going on trial of the murderer in religion point of view, I believe there is no such sentence as ‘hang until dead’ for a murder but let nature takes its own course. That summed up my understanding of “Law of Kamma” founded by my great teacher, Buddha.

Repent and do more good deeds is the way to go for a murderer, if he is fortunate not to be caught, or convicted under modern day man made laws.

Having said the above, we still need to observe our own actions and not to disregard man made laws, if we choose not to be unfairly convicted.

Easiest way is to observe the 5 precepts of Buddha’s teachings, and let nature takes its own course from there.

Congratulations to all partners in Pakatan Rakyat for the victory in KT by-election! You have shown the whole nation that race and religion are not criteria to unity! Losing GE12, the PP by-election and now the KT by-election is something BN has never experienced in the last half a century, what's more all three running consecutively. This shows the maturity of the electorate in Malaysia and that they relinquished the fear posed by threats from BN!

I just hope that from now on, BN will discard its old lines of action and reform. But looking at the way BN has been performing since March 08, I doubt they will do so! A leopard never change its spots.

'Keep children away from demos'

Have a nice day. This, I copied from a friend I regard as 'Jewel in blogosphere'. We need to cultivate peace, not anger and hatred.

I was attracted to a comment by one named 'Marion Tharsis' in response with an article in Malaysiakini titled "PSM: Education minister 'exploiting' children" http://malaysiakini.com/news/96188" and wish to reproduced here for the benefit of all :-

Marion Tharsis: I totally deplore the use of children to satisfy the government's or more particularly, the education minister's show of hatred towards the conflict in Gaza. I, as a parent, would not even send my child to school if such a show of hatred is being planned.

Do not make the teachers and children the scapegoats of your own selfish agenda. Children should never be used to serve anyone's cause be it with parents' consent or otherwise. Period.

If the minster really cares for the future well-being and good mental development of these young ones, he should instead advise the teachers to tell the children that the peace and tranquility we enjoy in this country, should always be preserved and valued.

This way, the children grow up with the right attitude and character - not ones with abject anger or hatred. As it is, racial integration in schools is already at its lowest level and no proper action is taken to correct the situation.

I shudder to think of the consequences of this kind of ill advice given by a man in authority and custodian of the nation's education system. The very same person who flashed the keris some time ago.

Parents send their children to gain a sound education and learn good moral values - not to demonstrate or to be taught to play politics or create any animosity.

I had the good fortune of having a good education in the mission schools of old and I can still remember that we used to observe a few minutes of silence in prayers for those people ravaged by war or some natural disasters. At no one time was there any expression of any anger or hatred shown to any one.

Please do not make the mistakes that others around the world made with young, innocent and tender lives who just follow the adults and are not in a position to realise if it is right or wrong.

DAP bukan parti perkauman

An article by one Wan Hamidi titled "Mampukah DAP menbantu kemenangan Pakatan Rakyat" in The Malaysian Insider. What attracted me is not this article, but a comment with title 'DAP bukan parti perkauman' by 'Honest view'. I agree with the comment fully and reproduced here.

Saya berpendapat DAP bukan satu parti 'perkauman' walaupun kebanyakan ahlinya kaum Cina Malaysia. Kaum Cina Malaysia suka DAP kerana ianya satu parti yang berasaskan kepada 'meritocracy' atau 'kebolehan' seseorang yang tidak kira orang itu Cina, Melayu, India, Kadazan dan sebagainya, dan tidak kira orng itu berugama Islam, Buddha, Christian, Hindu atau tidak berugama langsung.

Oleh itu, adalah tidak berasas jika orang kata DAP adalah parti Cina atau berbau perkauman. Kalau anda membuat analisa, ahli parliament India Malaysia dari DAP adalah lebih ramai daripada BN, dan ini bukan kerana kuota, ini kerana orang-orang yang terpilih adalah 'berkebolehan'. Selain daripada itu, orang Melayu yang dihormati seperti Tunku Aziz telahpun memilih DAP sebagai parti yang sesuai dengan pemikirannya. Encik Haris Ibrahim, orang Melayu yang sangat dihormati saya, juga kata kalau beliau nak jadi orang politik, dia akan memilih DAP.

Contoh-contoh yang demikian adalah bukti yang ternyata mengapa Encik Lim Guan Eng sungguh diminati dan dihormati orang-orang Malaysia, termasuk orang Melayu.

Pemikiran orang-orang Malaysia sudah tidak kolot. Kami boleh menerima 'meritocracy' sebagai asas membangun negara. Pilihanraya kecil Kuala Trengganu pada 17 Januari, 2009 adalah mesej yang kuat untuk Umno dan BN supaya berinsaf akan polisi-polisi mereka yang kolot dan tidak membawa kemajuan tulin kepada Malaysia.

Very often, we take for granted the love of our papa & mama to us. We would appreciate their love more when we become parents ourselves, or when they are no more around us. Well, human being human, it is always the case we can't understand our parents and as parents, we don't understand our own offsprings. What to do, life is like that. Anyway, I wish to share two articles of a true friend of my about papa and mama. They worth your two cents to read and appreciate.

PAPA

To-day is Father's Day. So the ritual begins. Who's going to take Dad to breakfast, lunch and dinner? Many weeks ago after Mother's Day, I met a friend and his family together with his parents at a restaurant. He told me it was in lieu of Mother's Day for his two other siblings had "booked" his mother for dinners for the last two days. Lucky parents. I suppose he will have the same arrangement for Father's Day.

Since this is my first post for Father's Day I have to relate my little story, just like what I did for Mother's Day. From next year onwards, I just need to write "Happy Mother's Day" and "Happy Father's Day". Why don't we follow the South Koreans who celebrate "Parents' Day" on May 8. Save time, save petrol, save money! After all you don't take just one of your parents to celebrate, do you?

Apparently the famous psychologist Sigmond Freud said, "I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection." Maybe I can copy him to say, "I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a mother's love."

Whether or not we love our parents right now, it does not change the fact that our fathers protected us and our mothers loved us. Of course, there is always exception to the rule. And how do we express our grattitude? Strangely, I wonder whether you notice? The Westerners compared with Asians, are not so family oriented; but they show their love for the family in a much more expressive manner with hugs and kisses. On the other hand, Asians who have stronger traditional family values do not display their affection physically. Well, I suppose it is our ingrained social behaviour to be more restrained.

For those with happy families, traditional celebrations are occasions to be cherished. These are the opportune time to meet up with other relatives as well. Father's Day is a bit special. Siblings have a good excuse to get together. Now the problems come if siblings are not that friendly to one another. Sound familiar?? To add to the "problem", what if paternal (or maternal) relationship is not that rosy? Mother's Day or Father's Day is really a heart-breaking day to be reminded that you can't express your love and gratitude to your parents.

To-day is Mother's Day, so says the media. I suppose it all started in the west. But no; after consulting the Mother of all Mothers of Information.....The Wikipedia! Not to waste your time here, you can click here.

In China, in recent years some people began to advocate Mother's Day for memory of Meng Mu, the mother of Mèng Zǐ. It's still not an official festival except in very few cities.

Closer to home, Malaysia. Do you know who are the happiest people to-day? No you are wrong, not the mothers. I cannot be a mother because I am a father; but I don't think the average mother will be the happiest to-day. The first reason is she will avoid scolding or criticizing her children. But the saddest thing is this paradox, the mother feels great disappointment when the children have "forgotten" her, especially to-day. But if she has the wisdom to reflect; it is no difference if her children can remember her on only one day of the year, but "forgotten" her the rest of the year. Oh yes, who are the happiest? Of course, the business people, especially those in the food and cake business.

Who is the person in the picture? My mother. She is 84. I can remember her age this year because she has come full cycle 7 times in the Chinese zodiac! During our times, there was no such thing as Mother's Day or Father's Day. Everyday was "The Same Thing Day" because everyday was just another day.

The greatest tragedy for a mother is when she is old and useless, the children/grandchildren/husband, chuck her away in the Old Folks home to ...just use your imagination. My second sister and I took back my mother from an old folks home when she suffered this horrible fate. Now she is safely with me although "old and useless". She is now not as you see her in the above picture.

Everyday is Mother's Day to me. What about you?

My thoughts on these subjects should not be viewed as concrete truths but rather as different ways of looking and reflecting on aspects of the Dhamma. We should, after all, keep an open and inquiring mind, and resist the easy temptation of clinging to views and opinions. We must always be alert to the persisting habit of the clinging/craving mind because it's really not important what we think and want to believe. What really matters, and what the Buddha kept reminding people, is that our minds and hearts are peaceful and free from suffering and dis-ease, ego pride, arrogance and conceit, and blessed with the four sublime states of loving kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity.

Just for your information, three of my children are in medicine. One already working in the States, one in fifth yr Auckland, and one just enter medical school.

The chinese has a saying, a doctor must behave like a parent towards his patients. We must love our patients like we love our kids. Not aways poossible, human being human, but we have to try.

We need to have patience, maybe that’s why patients are called patients to remind doctors to be patient. We need to have good rapport, we need to really like people. We have to talk a lot, even sometimes repeating again and again when the patients would be asking you on same topic again and again, just to make ourselves clear.

It is not easy to be like that alwaya, we being human, we some time may lose our patience, too. But over the years, if you genuinely love your work and like your patients, you find that you become closer and closer to most of your patients.
Of course, I am running a family practice clinic, in which I see the same patients over and over again. I see my child patients grow up , become adults, married and have their own kids which become my patients too. And that helps to creat mutual understanding and friendship.

However, don’t ever get emotionally attached to your patients. You can be friendly with them but don’t get emotionally attached, otherwise, you will get badly affected, say when one of your favourite hypertension patients suddenly develop a stroke or die, , it can really affect you.

But Life is not a bed of roses. Medicine is a life long responsibility. Medicine is a life-long learning processs. Maybe that’s why I am always learning new things, besides medicine. Medicine needs long hours, need your physical presence and so when your lawyer or engineeering friends are having frequent holidays, you have to be physically present in your clinic to deal with your patients. You cannot delegate your work. You have to have a sense of responsibility.

There is a saying , ” to cure seldom, to relieve sometimes, but to comfort always”. If you can have that “comforting” attitude, then medicine is the field for you.

Try not to let medicine dictate your life. I suppose you play piano. My children are all good pianists, so when they get upset, they get bored, they get disillusioned, they resort to music ,. That always helps. So when you do medicine, don’t give up your music. You will find it handy when you actually practice medicine next time.

Today is father's day. Someone sent me a message "Happy Father's Day" early in the morning while I was still in the sleep. To my surprise, this 'someone' is not even my own kid.

So, this make me wonder whether is it normal for a 'father' to receive a wishing "Happy Father's Day" from someone who is not his daughter or son.

Well, come to think of it, as long as one is father, he is 'qualified' to receive father's day wishing from anyone, even he or she is not your son or daughter.

Important thing here is if your wishes can make a father feels 'great' or 'happy', even you are not his son or daughter, why not?

This post is dedicated to this 'someone' and my late father, who passed away last year.

I miss you dad, "Happy Father's Day to you" daddy. I wish to mention part of my tribute to him below:-

To me, Buddhism is about nature. It is not important to find out how, who or when nature was created.

Being living creature of higher intelligence than others, we human need to know how to co-exist or blend with nature. We need to respect life of other living beings. (By the way, it is we human that 'self-acclaimed' that we are of higher intelligence than others).

But things don’t work out so perfectly in the real world where we kill animal for food, encroach into jungle and spoil their habitats, clear up forest to cater for our needs and so on.

That is why Buddha told us not to adopt his teachings blindly without understanding and self realisation. To understand Buddha’s teachings fully is not an easy task and it is near impossible.

But at least, if we can do things moderately and with clear conscience, I should say that we have contributed quite a bit to mankind. Just remember, what goes around, comes around, if you don’t believe in ‘Law of Karma’ discovered by Gautama Buddha.

There is no point if you ask for forgiveness for sins committed from God, you need to clear your sins by doing good deeds.

KARMA - I LIKE THIS EXPLANATION

Karma is a word from the philosophy of many Indian religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism). The basic theory is that the universe runs according to certain laws, all described by one word 'Dharma' (Sanskrit) or 'Dhamma' (Pali). The basic theory is: 'cause and affect'. The laws (Dharma) decide what affect is beget from a given cause. Karma is the 'cause' part of this theory. In other words, your actions - mental, vocal and physical are your Karma (plural).

Please note that in the Buddhist philosophy, Dharma does not 'punish' or 'reward' anyone. The concepts of good and bad don't exist here. For example, gravity is one of the laws of the universe, and if you jumped off a building and killed yourself, we wouldn't say that gravity was punishing you.

A REVOLUTION

The just concluded 12th General Election indeed a revolution for Malaysia. Lim Kit Siang and Nik Aziz liken it to a tsunami. Perhaps there is no other word best described the just concluded general election. To me, it is the beginning of a new era for Malaysia where we realised race-base politics is definitely not the way we should go for. We should not look at problem at 'race first, problem second' anymore. A problem is a problem irrespective of whether it is faced by Malay, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban or 'lain-lain'.

The statements made by our leaders after the release of General Election results are indeed assuring and respectable in every senses.

PAS spiritual leader, Nik Aziz said :-

“I want to thank everybody, all the races that worked together with PAS to bring in this victory. I appreciate your support. We will approach this victory from an Islamic point of view and this means everyone is equal. All are brothers and sisters. There should be no more dividing people along racial lines,”

To be appointed Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng said :-

“It will be a government for all Malaysians. We stress that we will not rule alone but together with PKR. We also hope that the PAS can help this new government”.

PKR de-facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim said :-

Unofficially the opposition parties - DAP, PKR and PAS have managed to deny the BN its two-thirds majority in the Parliament. At the last count, DAP won 27, PKR 25 and PAS 24, bringing a total of 76 seats, one more than the magical number of 75 needed to deny the 2/3. Meanwhile the BN has won 108 seats. There are a total of 222 seats.
MCA president shocked by BN losses - 12.58am
MCA president Ong Ka Ting today expressed shock over the election results which saw the ruling Barisan Nasional losing scores of seats to the opposition.

“The results are shocking because there are several states which BN has lost. However, MCA accepts the decision of the voters because it is their right,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Ong also added that MCA will conduct a detailed study on the defeat.

It has been quite some time that I did not post any photo of produce of Gary's Garden. Reason being that there was no new addition of plant that I can share. For this post, I decided to bring back some of flowers to all you. Someone introduced me that I can make use of the hibiscus flowers to make drinks that has 'antioxidants' value, which is good for our health. You can try to find out more on this antioxidant thing by using google search. One of it that I found was a Fact Sheet by US National Cancer Institute titled 'Antioxidants and Cancer Prevention: Fact Sheet' (http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/antioxidantsprevention). All you need to do is to boil the hibiscus flowers after thorough cleaning, let it cool, then chill it in a freezer, then squeeze some lime into it when you decide to taste it. By squeezing lime into it will make the hibiscus drink into maroon red colour (ie, like Ribena). I have been consuming this drinks for quite some time now, and the effect, so far so good.

PAS has ruled Kelantan for a few decades, the only state in Malaysia ruled by an opposition party. I read before a news that Dato Nik Aziz let flood victims to stay at his official residence. LAST DAY OF 2007

Today is the last day of the year 2007. To sum it up, it is not a 'too bad' year in career wise except for the passing of my father. Up to this moment, my heart is still aching when recalling those moments of his suffering in hospital bed hooking to respirator and medical equipment. Come to think of this, one may says it is pointless thinking of those moments, but it is easier said then done.

Well, some time I just wonder how nice if 'someone' is powerful enough to end these sufferings of living beings. I don't think anyone can do that. That is the reason why I doubt there exist a God. If God is so powerful, He in fact should eliminate sufferings and make all of us all rich, healthy, long life and so on. I may offend some people for saying this, who have faith in God. Anyway, for those who found faith in God, it is good for them. At least they can confide in Him in time of sorrow and helplessness.

Anyway, I hope everyone of us has a nice ending for 2007 and a good start of 2008. In fact, Gary's Garden pineapple plant start to bear fruit again a few days ago and custard apple plant bearing fruit for the first time. Could this be a good omen for me? Hope so, hehe.

Really, come to think of these youngsters' design, why should we opt for those damn expensive jewelleries and feel 'insecured' if you wear those around your neck, wrist, finger. Just ask yourselves, how many time you wear those 'expensive' jewelleries. The answer, I can be sure, is very 'rarely' and most of the time in safe security boxes. If you do a simple costing of 'Value per wear', you will be shocked.

So, it is your choice. Lets make your choice. Hehe, this is just an advice from an accountant.

The newly elected Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Kevin Rudd 陆克文 can speak Chinese. It is just wonderful.

One of the comments I gathered about this video is :-

Oh yes, I am a Malaysian staying in Australia, I am so happy when "Lu Kewen" won, i am so impress with his Mandarin proficiency, so much so made me feel ashamed of myself. I understand what he was saying in that interview, but don't think I as fluent as him.

He brought in some relieves and a breath of fresh air to the country, everyone esp those in the urban areas are sick and tired of his predecessor whose political party was practically "dismantled" - all the senior ex cabinet members quit frontbench.

I guess politics here is different if compare to malaysia - here it's not based not races - although opposition has taken control - but nobody is worried whether they will be discriminated, sidelined etc. Some may say its left wing and right wing - to me its all the same, just their ability to convince the people whether they are able to do a god job for the benefits of Australians - citizens and residents (like myself). Residents dont made to feel that they are 2nd class citizen - they get to share the benefits like australian citizens the only difference is not able to vote - thats all!

A VERY UNEQUAL WORLD

A very unequal world - an article of 'DR. HSU FORUM' has prompted me to start a 'DONATION FOR GOOD CAUSE' drive of SGD 5 per click to help out the poor and unfortunates. I quote part of the article here :-

" Businessweek estimated that in 2006, there are 9.6 million household with net worth more than US $1 million dollars. Together , they control about one third of the world’s total wealth.

4.6 million of them are in United States. 2,300 out of this 4.6 million are worth more than 100 US million each.

Japan, Britain, Germany and China made up of the other top 4 nations in the world with the most millionaires. China has the fastest rate of increase for millionaires at 39 % per year .

Just think this over and we will realize what Dr. Hsu mentioned here is very true. Just imagine if each of the millionaires like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet can impart a 'tiny fraction' of their wealth to the poor and unfortunate, they 'inequality' as stated here would not change much, but it will benefit the mankind.

A GOAT FARM

Beside the Turtle Sanctuary, we visited a goat farm on the way back to Kuantan. This goat farm is just next to a budget chalet named 'Lis Nar Re', owned by a Canadian who reside in Malaysia. The goat farm was just started about 2 years ago and to my surprise, it is very clean, goats and surrounding, it is very well run. Your kids should like this place, so, keep your fingers crossed for a visit to the farm. This farm is at Sungai Ular, Balok, Kuantan. Nice long, shallow water and low wave beach is there for you to enjoy.

TURTLE SANCTUARY, CHERATING

We have been to Cherating a few times but never visit the Turtle Sanctuary. This time around, we decided to drop by the sanctuary and it turned out to be a quite an educational one. All these while, we thought that we can only see turtle laying eggs at Dungun, Trengganu, Malaysia. But, we were told by the sanctuary officer that we can also see this at Cherating beach. The best time to watch this is during the month of May to July every year.

It is good that we have a sanctuary to protect these rare species of leatherback turtles which is fast becoming extinction. We had the chance to watch a video about turtles and most exciting part is letting go the young hatchlings to the sea during night time. We managed to capture young turtles in action but unable to video the event of releasing the young hatchlings to the sea as there was no proper lighting then.

Apart from this video, you are able to see what my kids learned from this experience. My kids had the chance to hold the young hatchlings before releasing them to the sea.

I have some friends who frequently 'flying' all over the world. I always take the opportunity to 'grab' them before they fly to another corner of the world. I asked them, 'why you still want to come back to Malaysia?' . Their answers to this was that 'because my root is here, though Malaysia is not the best amongst the countries that I set foot on.'

So, we can count ourselves lucky to be a Malaysian. No doubt there are a lot of problems here and there, but I believe they can be solved if we are determined to change for the better. I trust that many bloggers like RPK, Screeenshot, Rocky Bru, Harris Ibrahim, Dr. Hsu's Forum are sincere in wanting to make Malaysia a better place to live at. Just read their postings with open mind, you don't need to buy their 'stories' all the time. Be a 'thinking Malaysia', a 'True Malaysian'.

Whether we like it or not, we are the products of Malaysian policies, system and environment that 'mould' us all since young. We are moulded into looking at things racially, which I admit, cannot be changed overnight. But, we can change this, if we try.

世间的万事万物，不论是山川大地、环境中的任何事物与现象、我们的身体、思想、心理反应、…..等，都是在不断的变动之中，没有一样是永恒不变的，甚至包括所谓的原则、真理，也会随著时空的不同，而阶段性的有差异。到了该改变的那一刻，应该要放下的就要放下，不需执著。

　　但是要做到不执著谈何容易，该如何袪除执著呢？不妨试著从理性的分析，和对自己身心的体验，来练习袪除执著。

　　所谓理性的分析，就是用「因缘」的观念，来理解事物的真相。因缘是指一切的现象，不论生理的、心理的或自然社会的现象，都是时间和空间之下所产生的种种关系，是由许许多多因缘条件和合理而生的，无法单独发生，也不会突然出现，更不会永远不变地存在；只要其中一项因缘条件改变，牵一发而动全身，原本你以为绝对不会变的事物，就会有了变化。

　　另外一种则是用体验的方式。我们体验自己生命的过程，会发现人的生命从小一直到老，到死为止，都在不停地变化，自己的身体、生理在变，观念也在变。

　　例如一个人，本来是小男孩、小女孩，然后是少男少女，然后变成中年男子妇女，最后变成老先生、老妇人，不断、不断地在变，如果要执著，究竟要执著哪一个呢？究竟是十六岁的是我呢？还是八十岁的才是我？其实都不是，因为十六岁的时候已经过去，八十岁的现在也会过去，所以根本不需要执著。

　　从身体的变化可以更进一步来体验心理和观念的改变。从小开始，我们就不断在受教育，也不断受到环境、父母、老师以及时代变迁的影响，几乎没有一个观念是属于自己的，都是外来讯息的累积，然后才成为自己的想法。

　　而这些想法也是会变的，例如当你和别人谈话，对方提出一个你前所未闻的新观念，你听了以后，脑中的现法可能因此转变，不要说昨天的看法和今天的看法不同，可能这一刻的你和前一刻的你就不一样了。

　　不论从理论上来分析，还是从对自己的体验，都可以证明，没有一个永恒不变的我，甚至没有一个「我」存在，那又有什么好执著的呢？

　　不过虽然因缘在变化，但是当下还是有暂时的现象存在。就像一朵花，你今天看它可能好漂亮、好可爱，可是过了几天，它就凋谢，不漂亮、不可爱了，可能要换另外一朵花。既然知道事实如此，就不需要对这朵花太执著。因为花开、花谢，是自然现象，不需要太多的执著。

One of the great leader that I admire most is Mr. Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore. Even my late father was his fan. I still remember my father requested my relatives to video-tape Mr. Lee's national day speeches for him. Though I may not agree fully with Mr. Lee's ideas, opinions, thoughts or whatsoever, I realized there are many truths in them.

I shall collect his ideas, opinions, thoughts or whatsoever in my blog from time to time, for the benefit of mankind. Lets start with the below :-

Hehe, time flies. Another trip to Penang this year, sort of pilgrimage during school holidays and after busy period of mine. The different this time is that this trip is partly subsidized, in conjunction with my niece's convocation at University Sains Malaysia.

My dad aspired to attend this convocation during his lifetime. How nice if he is still alive to join us with this memorable celebration. We believe though he is unable to be with us physically, spiritually, he is still around us during the convocation.

“Don’t cling to things, because everything is impermanent”….a Buddhist saying.

It is alright to cling to negative emotions like fear, pain, failure, desperation, hopelessness, meaningless, worry and so forth. After you allow yourself to be fully penetrated by them, you got to detach from them and continue your journey. We don’t necessary taste the fruits from the good seeds we sowed in our mortal life span. If you hold back on your emotions…and don’t allow yourself to go all the way through them, you can never get to being detached. You become too busy being in all your emotions. After you have experienced and recognized all your emotions…tell yourself it is time to detach and carry on with the journey. There are more things and emotions awaiting you. ….hahaha learnt this entire talking cure from Morrie on the Tuesdays. Poem is chicken soup for a tired soul.

100TH DAY OF DAD'S PASSING

This coming 7/07/07, Saturday will be my dad's 100th day of passing. Co-incidentally, my wife had a dream of my dad waving goodbye to her and at the same time, reminding my wife to tell me to wear more clothing. Well, such gesture touched me so much that my dad still care for me even though he is gone. Perhaps he knows this coming Saturday is the last time he will remain with his family, after this, his soul will be elsewhere. For me, this coming Saturday will be sort of 'reunion' for my dad before we bid farewell to him.

I believe that although physically he is gone, spiritually he is still around, he is in my heart forever. My kids believe their 'Ah Kong' is still with them and my youngest daughter will call out loud 'Ah Kong' when I say 1,2,3.....3,2,1 and 1,2,3 to her. My family had the privilege to live with my dad all these while. Thanks dad for all your love.....bye.

This is the place I and my family spent during the last weekend. This beach is rich with its sea shells, fine sand and relatively low waves. It is a place I recommend you to go with your family. My kids spent the whole day there without complaining of tiredness. It is a paradise to them.

TODAY, 49TH DAY OF MY DAD'S PASSING

Today, Thursday 17th May 2007 is my dad 49th day of passing. Time passes really fast but it was not easy to pass by these 49 days. Many questions popped up my mind and I did some sort of soul searching during these 49 days. Questions like why we exist in this world, what is the purpose of we come to this world and where is one goes to after death. Is there any truth in Kamma. If someone up there so powerful, why there are still sufferings in this world. Why can't someone out there use his power to make the world no suffering at all and make the world a peaceful and happy place to live at.

I search the Web for answers to these questions but still not satisfied or convinced. Maybe we are so used to this 'material world' where we can touch and see with our own senses. Something must be tangible or scientifically proven in order to convince us to accept an answer. So, really, there is no definite answers to those questions that satisfied / convinced me.

The answer about Kamma is the one which I am more convinced at, though not fully. I need more time to find out more truth about it. From the look at it (see my posting 'What is Kamma' dated April 29, 2007), the nature Law of Kamma sound simple. Someone even opined that it is 'common sense', everyone knows about it. My question is, if the law is so simple and of common sense, why there are still so many crimes and wrong doing happening in our society?

Kamma is more acceptable to me simply because it put responsibility on ourselves. That is, whatever happened to us, it was due to our own action. You can simply explain it by a chinese proverb ' Goat's fur come from goat's skin' 羊毛出在羊身上. In a way, whatever we want to achieve in life, do it with a sincere manner with no evil motive behind. You agree with me in this?

Well, I believe I can't do much now for my father, since he is gone, but I believe good deed done in his name will help him to have a better next life. A prayer was held on this 49th day of his passing, sincerely hope that the prayer will benefit my father in whatever way. But, it is still depend on my dad's own Kamma, which I believe, should be a good one.

I REGRETTED NOT BEING WITH MY DAD.......

I regretted not being with my dad at time of his passing. I should have stayed longer with him that faithful midnight. I was optimistic then that dad able to get well again..... and can live with my family again, but....... I was wrong, I regretted not at his bed side then.

Before I left him that night, I massaged his legs which were swollen, then I stroke his hand gently and told him to sleep well. Again, I could have stayed with him longer.

Now that he has gone. This coming Thursday, 17 July, 2007 (sorry, should be 17 May, 2007) is his 49th day of passing. We Chinese, or rather Buddhists believe that the soul of the deceased will still be with its family within 49 days of one's passing before reincarnated / reborn elsewhere as another living being. Prayers have been offered to him to wish him well in his next life. So, let us all do our parts to offer him prayers this coming Thursday. I wish him a good and less sufferings future life elsewhere.

WHAT IS KAMMA?

I found this article and would like to share with all of you, please read with open mind, I am not supporting anyone........

Kamma means 'action'. The Law of Kamma means that there are inescapable results of our actions. There are deeds of body, speech or mind that lead to others' harm, one's own harm, or to the harm of both. Such deeds are called bad (or 'unwholesome') kamma. They are usually motivated by greed, hatred or delusion. Because they bring painful results, they should not be done.

There are also deeds of body, speech or mind that lead to others' well being, one's own well being, or to the well being of both. Such deeds are called good (or 'wholesome') kamma. They are usually motivated by generosity, compassion or wisdom. Because they bring happy results, they should be done as often as possible.

Thus much of what one experiences is the result of one's own previous kamma. When misfortune occurs, instead of blaming someone else, one can look for any fault in one's own past conduct. If a fault is found, the experience of its consequences will make one more careful in the future. When happiness occurs, instead of taking it for granted, one can look to see if it is the result of good kamma. If so, the experience of its pleasant results will encourage more good kamma in the future.

The Buddha pointed out that no being whatsoever, divine or otherwise, has any power to stop the consequences of good and bad kamma. The fact that one reaps just what one sows gives to the Buddhist a greater incentive to avoid all forms of bad kamma while doing as much good kamma as possible.

Though one cannot escape the results of bad kamma, one can lessen their effect. A spoon of salt mixed in a glass of pure water makes the whole very salty, whereas the same spoon of salt mixed in a freshwater lake hardly changes the taste of the water. Similarly, the result of a bad kamma in a person habitually doing only a small amount of good kamma is painful indeed, whereas the result of the same bad kamma in a person habitually doing a great deal of good kamma is only mildly felt.

This natural Law of Kamma becomes the force behind, and reason for, the practice of morality and compassion in our society.

A LEGACY WE TREASURE

Dad left a legacy that all of us treasure. He implanted good family values in us and I am sure he is proud of us all.

One of the value he had was that he let us have freedom of religion, believes and faiths that all of us siblings deemed fit. He never never imposed on us that we must follow what he believed at.

To be honest, I still not able to do so, worry that my own children may adopt other faiths that I believe at. Human being human, we do have our 'selfish' side of us.

But, one thing I believe is that we should not have the perception that our own faith is of more superior than the others, we should not 'imposed' our values onto others.

A TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER

This is really my saddest episode in life. My dad passed away peacefully recently. Well, just feel that I had not really done enough for him while he was alive. Dad had stayed with my family for almost 10 years and these were the most valuable moments he gave to me. He was the best daddy one can get, and I believe, he is still the best. Without him, I won't be as I am today. From deep in my heart, I want him to know that I am thankful to him and he is in my heart for the rest of my life. Though this most sorrowful time left a scar in my heart, I shall treasure it forever.

I will repay your deeds by living my life to the fullest and be a good father to my own children. Bye dad, have a better life somewhere else.

SCOUT CAMP

These were the days I long for since many years ago. I passed by this camp when visiting a coastal town of Muar, Johor. Many years ago, I like to spend my school holidays in scout camps. I believe this is a good way to mould oneself into an independent, discipline and resourceful person.

TOMORROW NOT ALWAYS THERE 明天不是每天都有

One thing I learned from my recent experience is that ' Tomorrow not always there'. We always take 'tomorrow' for granted. We often think there is always 'tomorrow' to give our best shot, to improve ourselves, or even to repent what we have done wrong. The recent event during last few weeks proved me wrong, to a very very great extent.

So, don't wait until tomorrow to say 'I love you' to someone dear to us, because tomorrow may not be there for us.

最近的几个星期让我领悟到'明天不是每天都有'. 我们经常给自己太多的藉口'还有明天' 来反省自己的过失, 或者'还有明天'来充实自己.

FLORA FEST OF GARY'S GARDEN

In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007, a flora festival float procession was held last week in Putrajaya, the new administrative capital of Malaysia. Not to lag behind, Gary's Garden flowers are blooming now just in time with the Flora Festival of Malaysia.

Sometime, I prefer to use the old roads instead of the tolled highways / expressways when going for holidays. It is not because I am not willing to pay for the tolls, but instead it is because you can see more things using old roads. For instance, you are able to buy 'Air Nira' (liquid extracted from coconut flowers), see the kampung (village) lifestyle, stop by to buy local fruits and see nice scenery along the way.

One of the scene is the Tanjung Karang padi field, which co-incidentally is the kampung of a blogger friend's wife.
